Developed by Collective Action in collaboration with the Canberra Inclusive Partnership (Meridian, A Gender Agenda, and Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT), this guide aims to support safer and more inclusive data collection about gender, sexuality, sex, and variations of sex characteristics. It includes recommended questions that were developed in consultation with LGBTIQA+ people, and practical tools to help organisations assess and improve the inclusivity of their data practices. The way data collection practices and tools ask for personal and sensitive information plays a significant role in whether LGBTIQA+ people feel safe and welcome when accessing a service. We hope this guide will assist organisations in ensuring their data collection practices are safe and inclusive, as this is critical to improving access to services and reducing health inequity between LGBTIQA+ people and the wider community.
